TJC

By Meara O'Brien

Terri Janke and Company’s Senior Associate, Anika Valenti, recently joined the Lawyer’s Weekly podcast to discuss her remarkable achievements at the 2023 Australian Law Awards 2023, winning the Excellence Award and Senior Associate of the Year for the second year in a row.

In this episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, host Jerome Doraisamy speaks with Anika about her prior experience in the film and television industry, her work with Indigenous clients, and how she navigates this space.

In the podcast, Anika canvasses her pathway from the film industry into the legal profession, and how she continues to infuse creativity in her legal practice. Anika shares her commitment to a relationship-focused and client-centred approach to lawyering, and how fellow lawyers can follow suit to enrich their legal practice.

In a legal landscape where ICIP rights are not protected by sui generis laws in Australia, Anika demonstrates extraordinary expertise in navigating intellectual property law, commercial law and contracting to secure the best outcomes for her clients. Anika’s achievements position her as a trailblazer in the field of Intellectual Property, devising creative solutions for Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) protection and Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDSov). Anika’s work consistently aligns with international best practice, exploring new horizons in the law to protect the rights and knowledge of First Nations peoples.
