I was honoured to speak yesterday at the ABC Indigenous Staff Conference about Listen Loudly, Act Strong: Independent Review into ABC Systems and Processes in Support of Staff who Experience Racism.

I was joined in this important discussion by Emma Fitch, Senior Solicitor at Terri Janke and Company who worked closely with me on the report; Dan Bourchier, member of the Bonner Committee; Kelly Williams, ABC’s Director of First Nations Strategy; and Dominic Zahra, Deputy Director of First Nations Strategy. Together, we reflected on the review process, the changes already underway, and the responsibility to ensure these changes create a lasting impact.
The report calls for stronger systems, greater accountability, and meaningful support for staff who experience racism. For this work to be effective, cultural safety must remain at the centre. Listening is only the beginning—acting strongly is how genuine change is achieved.

It was also a joy to reconnect with Professor Jackie Huggins, Elder-in-Residence at the ABC, and Solua Middleton, Deputy Chair of the Bonner Committee, whose leadership and wisdom continue to inspire.
This gathering was a powerful reminder that while progress has been made, this work must remain ongoing and consistent. Cultural safety needs to be embedded across all systems—only then can we create workplaces where every person feels safe, valued, and respected.
