Expertise

Matthew is a paralegal at TJC and holds a bachelor’s degree in Law and International Studies. During his studies, he focused on criminal law reform and policy research, developing a strong interest in the impact of government policy on social outcomes.


Matthew also has an interest in politics and governance. While at university, he served as the Undergraduate Representative on the University Council and the student union. Throughout his university years, he dedicated himself to national social justice campaigns and improving student conditions. He is an empathetic, compassionate, and committed individual who enjoys working collaboratively toward meaningful outcomes.

Experience

Matthew’s first experience in the legal industry was volunteering with the Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) in Wollongong for twelve months. In this role, he was part of the criminal law team, assisting solicitors and clients both inside and outside the courtroom. He then spent a year with Legal Aid NSW in the Indictable Appeals Unit and the Local Court Unit as a Legal and Client Support Officer. Most recently, Matthew worked as an Electorate Officer for a Federal Member of Parliament for eight months.


While at university, Matthew also completed an internship at Legal Aid NSW and undertook a short course in the Czech Republic, studying threats to global security and international relations.


Community

Matthew was born and raised in Orange, Wiradjuri Country, before moving to Wollongong in 2021 for university. He has recently relocated to Sydney after completing his studies. Matthew enjoys spending time at the beach, surfing with friends, and exploring the hidden gems of his new home.
